SHORE EXCURSION BILBAO: itinerary
We leave the port by bus and begin our Bilbao shore excursion with a walking tour of the city centre. The San Antón Bridge crosses the Estuary of Bilbao and connects the neighbourhoods of Bilbao La Vieja and Casco Viejo.
From here we can marvel at the Church of San Antón. This Gothic style building has a Renaissance-style façade and an ornate Baroque Belfry Tower. Grand, vaulted ceilings loom over the three chapels inside.
Right next door is the Ribera Market. Inside the largest covered market in Europe, traders compete to sell you their fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, fish and cheeses.
Our Bilbao shore excursion continues in the heart of the city, to the area known as Las Siete Calles (The Seven Streets). Via Plaza Nueva, we’ll head towards Plaza de Santiago Cathedral where we’ll visit Bilbao Cathedral.
The last stop of our tour is the Guggenheim Museum (entrance optional), one of the most famous examples of contemporary architecture. Inside, the museum hosts large-scale installations and exhibitions by contemporary artists. Outside, the structure’s unique silhouette is perfect for some Instagram-worthy photos.
