SHORE EXCURSION ALICANTE: itinerary
Lets dive right in to what’s been called ‘the heart and soul of the city’ and walk along the famous Explanada de España. This promenade stretches along the marina and is elegantly paved with over 6.6 million red, black and cream tiles.
Further in the city, we’ll visit Museo de las Hogueras which examines Alicante’s famous Hogueras de San Juan celebration. Translating to Bonfires of Saint John, this festival takes place in June to coincide with summer solstice.
Our Alicante shore excursion continues at the Basilica of Santa Maria and St. Nicholas Cathedral.
Next, at the Water Museum we can see the Garrigós Wells which supplied the city with freshwater, possibly from as early as the 16th century.
To complete the Alicante shore excursion we’ll go to Santa Bárbara Castle, the city fortification that stands on top of Mount Benacantil. From the lookout tower, the palace and the moat we’ll enjoy some great views of the city out to the sea.
We’ll then return to port for boarding.
