SHORE EXCURSION ST PETERSBURG: ITINERARY

Before we can begin our shore excursion of St Petersburg, we’ll first pass passport control at port.

We’ll then start the sightseeing tour during which we can admire all the symbols of the city: The Quay with Egyptian Sphinxes, the tip of Vasilievsky Island, the armored cruiser Aurora, the Field of Mars park, Saint Michael’s Castle, the main street Nevsky Prospektand St. Isaac’s Cathedral.

Then we will visit the Hermitage Museum. One of the largest and oldest museums in the world, it was founded by Catherine the Great in 1764. It holds over three million items in its collection, of course not all on display at the same time!

We will continue our shore excursion visiting the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood. It’s pseudo-Russian style architecture makes it one of the most popular attractions and recognizable landmarks in St. Petersburg.*

We then head to the Peter and Paul Fortress, in the true heart of the city. The fortress was constructed by Peter the Great and used as a prison for political prisoners until the early 20th century.

We will then return to the port for boarding.

*Alternatively, in the case of closure of the Church, will visit St. Isaac’s Cathedral.

SHORE EXCURSION ST PETERSBURG: DAY 2

We will meet at the port and then leave to visit Peterhof Park and Gardens, the summer residence of Peter the Great. The palace and surrounding grounds are so grand and ornate they are sometimes referred to as the ‘Russian Versailles’.

We’ll also see the spectacular Catherine Palace, named after Catherine I, the wife of Peter the Great. Located just outside town, this ornate palace is lavishly decorated. We’ll see the legendary Amber Room, decorated with amber mosaic panels and gilded carvings.

We will continue our shore excursion with a visit to St. Isaac’s Cathedral, one of the most interesting monuments of Neoclassical Russian Art and Architecture of nineteenth century.

At the end of the shore excursion, we will have a little free time to walk or do some shopping.

*Shore excursions could be subject to variations due to external causes as Cruise Companies politics, weather conditions, duration of the stay of the ship in the port, legal demonstrations
