SHORE EXCURSION LISBON: itinerary

The bus will leave port and head to Lisbon to begin our shore excursion. It will begin  from the visit of one of the Symbols of the city: the  Belem Tower, built as a lighthouse and fortress at the mouth of the Tagus river. We’ll admire this wonderful example of decorative Manueline architecture, built in the 16th century.

After a photo break at the tower we will come back to the heart of the city, Rossio Square. Situated in Baixa (the lower part of the city) it’s one of the most popular squares in Lisbon. Throughout the day locals under the 75 foot Column of Pedro IV. Keeping walking amongst the streets and alleys of the centre we’ll find the medieval Lisbon Cathedral. This is the oldest church in the city and after many modifications is a mix of architectural styles.

Next door is the Santo António Church, said to have been built on the birthplace of Saint Anthony. We’ll briefly enter inside to see the chapel and the treasures it holds.

Before coming back to the port, we’ll have time to see Commerce Square (Praça do Comércio to the locals) and Avenida de Libertade, two of the main crucial points of interest of the city.
