Shore Excursion Lisbon and Sintra: itinerary
The bus will leave port and head to Lisbon to begin our shore excursion. It will begin in the city’s oldest district Amongst these streets and alleys we’ll find the medieval Lisbon Cathedral. This is the oldest church in the city and after many modifications is a mix of architectural styles.
Next door is the Santo António Church, said to have been built on the birthplace of Saint Anthony. We’ll briefly enter inside to see the chapel and the treasures it holds.
The Lisbon shore excursion then continues towards Belem Tower, built as a lighthouse and fortress at the mouth of the Tagus river. We’ll admire this wonderful example of decorative Manueline architecture, built in the 16th century.
Then, we’ll get back on our bus heading to the fairytale town on Sintra . The town is a UNESCO World heritage Site and boasts many 19th-century Romantic architectural monuments. We will sepnd here about 2 hours and will have a panoramic walking tour among the castles, palaces and nature of this city and then we will have a little free time to have lunch.
Coming back to Lisbon we will head towards the heart of the city, Rossio Square. Situated in Baixa (the lower part of the city) it’s one of the most popular squares in Lisbon. Throughout the day locals under the 75 foot Column of Pedro IV.
Before coming back to the port, we’ll have time to see Commerce Square (Praça do Comércio to the locals) and Avenida de Libertade, two of the main crucial points of interest of the city.
