SHORE EXCURSION TRAPANI: itinerary
This shore excursion explores two places in the province of Trapani; Segesta and Erice.
Firstly, we’ll make the 35-minute journey from port to Segesta where we’ll arrive at Monte Barbaro. This 400-metre hill provides us will a beautiful view of the sea.
Nearby is the archaeological area of Segesta. At this ancient site, we’ll learn about the Greek theatre and the 3rd century Doric temple, later rebuilt by the Romans.
The Trapani shore excursion continues with a 50-minute drive to the medieval town of Erice. Erice was founded in the 5th century BC by the Phoenicians, and would later be ruled by the Arabs, Normans and the Romans.
The main attractions are the Norman gates of the city, Umberto I square, the Balio Gardens, the “Venus Castle” and the Cathedral of the Assumption. After exploring Erice, we’ll head back to port to conclude the Trapani shore excursion.
