The journey to Bologna takes about an hour and half by bus from the port of Ravenna. There, the shore excursion can begin.

Bologna is the capital of the Emilia-Romagna region and known for its mix of cultural, artistic, economic and political draws. First, on our walking tour we take in some history at Piazza Maggiore and visit the Basilica of San Petronio that dominates this central square.

We hop next door to the grand Fountain of Neptune, then through to the area of the centre known as Quadrilatero. This cobblestoned part of town contains the old market and is a food lover’s paradise.

The Bologna shore excursion also takes in the Church of Santa Maria della Vita and the Archiginnasio; one of the most important buildings of the city. Home of the University until 1805, it’s main attraction today is the well-preserved anatomical theatre where dissections once took place.

Finally, no shore excursion to Bologna would be complete without a visit to the famous Two Towers, the symbol of the city.
