SHORE EXCURSION LORETO: itinerary

The shore excursion leaves the port of Ancona and heads to Loreto, about 50 minutes by bus.

Due to the Holy House of Nazareth being situated there, Loreto has become a popular pilgrimage site. According to folklore this is said to be the house in which Mary raised the young Jesus.

It’s said that because the structure was under threat during the Crusades, angels miraculously transported the house from Nazareth to Croatia, and later to Loreto.

Whether you believe in miracles or not this ancient structure and the Gothic basilica in which it is housed, are popular tourist attractions in the Ancona region.

Construction of the Basilica of the Holy House was started in the late 15th century, but over the years many fine artists contributed to its splendor. Join us on our Ancona shore excursion and you’ll see work by Bramante, Giuliano da Sangallo, Luca Signorelli and other masters of art and architecture.
