Shore Excursion Rhodes and Lindos: itinerary
The Rhodes shore excursion begins with a trip to the archaeological site of Lindos. It’s just 50 minutes from the port by bus and a popular holiday destination.
At Lindos, we visit the Acropolis, the ancient citadel which sits above the modern town. In around 300BC the Temple of Athena Lindia was constructed in honour of the goddess of wisdom and war. Today we’ll visit what’s left of the temple as well as the ruins of the ancient theatre and the Temple of Dionysus.
Next, our shore excursion will head to the Acropolis of Rhodes which is dedicated to Zeus, Athena and Apollo. As well as temples to the gods, the site also features a stadium and theatre.
Then, we’ll continue to the old town, which was walled and fortified by the Knights of St. John. We’ll walk along the Avenue of the Knights which used to be their residence.
Finally our Rhodes shore excursion will visit the Palace of the Grand Master. From the 14th century it was used by the knights as a palace, headquarters and fortress. A magnificent spot to admire before we head back to port.
