Shore Excursion Rostock: itinerary

To reach the city centre of Rostock, our shore excursion will travel by bus for just 20 minutes. Our walking tour will stop at St. Mary’s Church (Marienkirche), a Brick Gothic style basilica and the City Hall. We’ll have time to visit the University of Rostock, one of the oldest in the world, founded in 1419.

We’ll wander along Kröpeliner Street, the main shopping strip of the historic centre. Lined with carefully restored gabled houses, this street looks like a picture postcard. Take a moment to enjoy the elaborate and colourful facades.

At the end of the Kröpeliner, we’ll find Neuer Markt; the old market square, and Kröpeliner Tor. Once one of 32 gates of the city wall, this Gothic tower was built in the 13th century. Over the years it was modified and extended to the 55 metre-high spired tower we see today.

Before finishing our shore excursion of Rostock we’ll also have time to see Kunsthalle; the city’s art gallery and Schiffahrtsmuseum, the maritime museum.
