Our Ajaccio shore excursion leaves port and begins with a panoramic drive of the city.

At Place d’Austerlitz, we find a monument to Napoleon Bonaparte. He wears his famous two-cornered hat, and looks out towards his hometown. Nearby is Napoleon’s Grotto; the cave where he used to hide as a child.

Our bus then takes us to Pointe de la Parata, further down the coast. We leave the bus walk for 20 minutes to reach Tour de la Parata, a ruined Genoese tower. Enjoy a little free time here and take some pictures of the area known as Îles Sanguinaires. Translating to the Bloody Islands because the sunset turns the area a deep crimson.

The shore excursion returns to Ajaccio city centre by bus to admire the Holy Land monument and the cathedral.

Leaving the bus, the group walks to Charles de Gaulle Square to admire the statue of the Napoleon. Referred to as the child of Ajaccio, Napoleon stands here with his four brothers.

The Maison Bonaparte; Napoleon’s birthplace and childhood home is situated nearby. This slice of history was turned into a museum to the famous general in 1967.

Our Ajaccio shore excursion will finish at Foch square before returning to port.
