SHORE EXCURSION AMSTERDAM: ITINERARY
This Amsterdam shore excursion visits both the old and new parts of the capital. There’s lots to see and do, so lets not waste time and head directly to the city centre. During our 4-hours walking you will be introduced to over 800 years of Amsterdam history, culture and traditions.
You will walk along the canals and alleys that characterize this unique city, well know as the “Venice of the North”. After a pleasant walk we will embark the canal cruise where we will spend about 1 hour. On the boat we wil have the chance to see hidden corners and unique views from the canal point of view.
Dam Square is one of the most important locations in the city. It’s name comes its original function; a dam on the Amstel river. Today it’s a meeting point for locals as well as a key tourist zone. The white travertine stone National Monument stands 22 metres tall and dominates one side of the square.
On the other side we’ll find the Royal Palace. Originally built as the city hall during the Dutch Golden Age of the 17th century, it was later converted to a royal residence. Next door is Nieuwe Kerk, aka the New Church.
The Amsterdam shore excursion continues at Museum Square (Museumplein to the locals), across Magere Brug (the ‘Skinny Bridge’) and also to the Convent of Begijnhof.
At the end of our cruise we will have another walk with our guide before getting back to the port.
